Muslim expat marriage in Bahrain - Indian and Pakistani nationalMuslim expat marriage in Bahrain - Indian and Pakistani national

legal question I am an Indian national working in Bahrain since last three years, while my family (my parents) are in India. I hold an Indian passport, Aadhar Card and Pan Card. The prospective bridegroom is a Pakistani national, also working in Bahrain. Both of us are adults (over 30 years), have never been married before and belong to Islamic faith. Both our families have given their approval. We have also applied to our respective embassies (i.e. for me Embassy of India, Bahrain) and have obtained a "not married" affidavit attested by the respective consular / Embassy. The Indian Embassy had called my family in India to get their clearance prior to issuing me the attested affidavit. I have also informed the Indian Embassy about my decision to continue to retain my Indian citizenship post marriage. The prospective bridegroom and I shall continue to reside in relatively neutral countries like Bahrain, although I do intend to visit my parents back home in India at intervals. I was verbally told at the Embassy that marriages outside of India are not recognized by the Supreme Court of India, which surprised me considering the increasing number of marriages outside Indian borders. So, I would like to get some clarifications and guidance with regards to the procedures / legal requirements. Looking forward to your response and guidance. Thanks
